The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a credit-linked subsidy scheme aimed at generating self-employment opportunities through the establishment of micro-enterprises in both rural and urban areas. Administered by the Ministry of MSME, it serves as a cornerstone for ambitious individuals looking to start new projects with financial backing from the government.
What is this scheme?
PMEGP is a flagship scheme formed by merging two previous schemes: Prime Minister's Rojgar Yojana (PMRY) and Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP). It is implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) at the national level. The scheme provides financial assistance to set up new micro-enterprises in the manufacturing and service sectors, offering significant subsidies on the total project cost to reduce the debt burden on new entrepreneurs.
