PM-AJAY (Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana)

The Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY) is a comprehensive flagship program launched by the Government of India to foster the socio-economic development of the Scheduled Caste (SC) population. Formed by merging three existing schemes—Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY), Special Central Assistance to Scheduled Castes Sub Plan (SCA to SCSP), and Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatrawas Yojana (BJRCY)—this scheme aims to reduce poverty and improve quality of life. The primary focus of PM-AJAY is to provide financial assistance for self-employment ventures and sustainable livelihood projects. By offering grants and subsidies, the government helps individuals and families from the SC community to establish small businesses, such as grocery stores, livestock farming, or local repair shops. Beyond individual business support, the scheme also emphasizes the development of infrastructure in villages with a high concentration of Scheduled Castes, ensuring better access to roads, water, and sanitation. It also funds the construction of hostels for SC students to promote higher education.
