Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)

The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a credit-linked subsidy scheme launched by the Government of India to facilitate self-employment through the establishment of micro-enterprises. Administered by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) through the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), the scheme provides financial assistance to unemployed youth and traditional artisans. The program aims to generate sustainable employment opportunities in both rural and urban areas by mobilizing institutional credit and providing government subsidies. Beneficiaries can set up new projects in manufacturing or service sectors, with specific focus on inclusive growth through special categories. The scheme also includes mandatory Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training to ensure the long-term viability of the established business units and foster local entrepreneurship.
